I have been writing stories for as long as I can remember. I wrote some very rough drafts for a handful of fantasy a sci-fi stories and also created turn-based warfare games using Legos and dice that I played with my brother. After reading the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paoli, I was inspired to become a young author just as he had. Obviously, I didn't achieve that goal, but I still enjoyed the process of storytelling and worldbuilding.
I engaged in the craft less frequently when I entered highschool, went off to college, then served in the military for five years, but I still came back to it and continued to build upon and update my fictional world.
It wasn't until I got out of the military in 2022 that I began to spend more time worldbuilding. By this point, I had developed a fascination with Table Top Role Playing Games (TTRPGs), namely Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition and Pathfinder, and had started to develop my own system to fit my setting. This initially started as a very crunchy and in-depth d20 system that required a character booklet instead of a character sheet and likely would not have been a lot of fun for most people. Once I was out of the military and had more time to devote to it, I began an online campaign set on the world of Aroka and started out using variant of Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition but eventually evolved into something else entirely.
Numerous revisions and a cross-country move later, I began another in-person campaign also on Aroka but utilizing a brand new custom ruleset I call 3dX. I'd explored other dice systems in an attempt to get away from the volatility of d20 systems and came up with a mostly math-free system where three dice, based on the characters Vitality, Attributes, and Abilities, were rolled to determine the outcome of events. This paradigm shift opened up so many more options and I worked with my players to work out the bugs in the system. Through their feedback and playtesting, 3dX has really come into its own and I plan to continue to make improvements to make it a system that is easy to learn, doesn't interrupt play, and provides enough customization to allow players to bring their characters to life without breaking the experience.
Getting settled into a new career and going back to school occupied most of my focus in 2024, but I've decided that I enjoy game design, storytelling, and worldbuilding too much to let it fall to the wayside again. I look forward to being more active here on World Anvil as well as finding more opportunities to connect with others that share my passion.
